Exercise 6: Reading the rulers of houses.
This is an extension of Exercise 5 and Princess Diana's chart will be used again. The ruler of a house, is the planet that rules the sign on the house cusp. Its location in the chart, symbolises where we go to: (1) Resolve the matters of the original house, or (2) to get that houses needs met, (3) to express the energy of the original house.
Note that in Diana's chart, Saturn rules the second house because Capricorn on the cusp. Saturn is at the end of the first house and is conjunct the second house cusp. There is a rule - when a planet is at the end of a house and within 5 degrees conjunct of the next house's cusp, the planet is influential in the next house. This is important with planets in the twelfth house that are conjunct the ascendant. That planet's influence will not be hidden, but will be obvious.
House 2. The first ruler of the second house is Saturn. Diana's values were practical (Capricorn), and she was very careful to conserve her resources and personal money (Saturn conjunct the second house cusp). The second ruler of house 2 is Uranus (Aquarius intercepted). But her humanitarian side wanted to share (Aquarius), and she would use her influence to gather resources and money (Uranus in the eighth house of other people's money), for her causes.
House 5. The ruler of the fifth house is Venus, with Taurus on the cusp. Diana was very practical and hands-on with her children. She would put her whole attention onto this task (Venus is in the 5th).
House 7. The ruler of the seventh house is Mercury and it is in the 7th, in Cancer. With Gemini, Diana very much wanted to communicate with her husband. But when emotionally hurt, she could sulk and vent her hurt feelings (Mercury retrograde in Cancer). This cause a breakdown of communication with her older and more mature husband.
House 8. The first ruler of the eighth house is the Moon, with Cancer on the cusp. The way she handled her emotions (detaching emotionally and going into old stuff - Moon in Aquarius conjunct the south-node), needed to be transformed. The second ruler is the Sun, with Leo intercepted in the 8th. She needed to learn to stand up for herself in marriage (Sun in seventh house).
House 10. The ruler of the tenth house is Venus, with Libra on the MC. In her profession, Diana would be fair and considerate. She could be very creative in her work, charm people and bring them pleasure (Venus).
