In alchemical work, the opaque prison becomes translucent to the passage of Light in the promise of its transparent destiny as LIGHT.

Introduction

Many incarnations have been lived with the consciousness focused on the 18 lower subplanes, long-ago times characterised by immersion in a deep Egoic lethargy. In the words of Sri Aurobindo: sleepwalking. From a higher referent or perspective, these are states of Opacity of Being in which the divine latency slumbers. However, it is not a frozen state, but many hidden processes respond to the evolutionary impulse even if they are not evident to the closed eyes of the “Sleeping Beauty”, symbol of the Soul.

This Opaque State of Being shapes a narcissistic and self-centred life, which also contains the seeds -and usually the early fruits-, of physical, emotional and/or mental illness. One is far from being able to pass through the portal of knowledge and moreover that of wisdom and spiritual intuition.

The thick and dark skin begins to refine under the yoke of Vulcan, who, in the heat of daily battle, assists us in the process of purification. It is recognized that some degree of Translucency is being achieved. With the tool of meditation, the building of the Antahkara and the rising auspices of the seventh ray of Aquarius, the increase in vibratory activity does not go unnoticed and is reflected in the quality of service offered. We become our own judges; we take note of the place we occupy, for under the Light of the Soul our degree of Translucence is revealed, that condition capable of reflecting Light through the bodies in an increasingly perfect manner. The lesser initiations have begun, maya is uncovered, the glamour is being dispelled and the illusion begins to disperse.

Responding ever more rapidly, the petals unfold and expose their colours and sounds. The energies of Aquarius, with their major and minor cycle dynamics, doubly stimulate our etheric vision. We see beyond and sensitivity to the invisible and impersonal is heightened. The canvas of life on which we participate, move and have our being changes, because our consciousness changes: it shifts before ever more potent lights.

We recognize that our experiences are everyone's experiences, that life is a substance that interpenetrates us all. My personal figure is blurred; what I do, feel and think participates in a group world. And the light of my matter seems to be extinguished before the Light of the Soul but rather it is redeemed and raised to a higher vibrational quota. I keep my name and my vehicles, but when I look at them from another perspective, they become Translucent, their vibrations are more useful to the Plan, and that is the only thing by which we can be identifiable.

In advanced stages of the spiritual path we act, feel and think for the sake of loving and intelligent service, ever closer to our Ashramic destiny. As we follow the example of Francis of Assisi when he stripped himself of his garments in the public square, so we strip ourselves of all that obstructs the passage of the Light. The more we work at redeeming our lower bodies by purifying them, dispelling all illusions, expanding this effort as a group, the language of communication itself takes on a new tone and colour: that of luminous expression through a purity that transforms us into Translucent Beings. We show what We Are and We Are Souls. Total Translucence only exists after the third initiation when the Ego begins to radiate with more power until its final explosion in the configuration of a new web of Light. Because alchemy does not stop here and continues, we must prepare ourselves for an even greater radiative experience.

Here begins the expression of the state of Transparency, which allows the passage of LIGHT without colouring it, because we identify ourselves with the One LIGHT. While Opacity and even Translucence relate to individual and group consciousness, Transparency relates to a transcendental and divine consciousness.

Before continue with the development of this paper, I would like to point out that the hypotheses I have constructed are based on the teachings of Master DK and other initiates and thinkers (which are acknowledged at the bottom of the page), which I have reflected upon until I have reached a conclusion that may or may not be accurate.

THE ALCHEMY OF SPIRITUALITY

Five considerations should be considered as a basis for the development of the chosen theme, and we will now move on to their brief exposition:

1. The Passage of LIGHT

Science tells us that photons or particles of light behave as packets of energy that impact an object, penetrate its material and excite its electrons in an attempt to confer upon them a quantum of energy that allows them to jump to a higher spin or orbital. We are aware that science is recognizing the characteristics of light in its denser nature and that the original source of LIGHT rushes through the lower dimensions and there encounters atomic matter that will be more or less permeable to its passage. I find this definition very useful as an analogy in attempting to explain the mechanism of light in spiritual alchemy.

When light meets matter, several things can happen as the “passage of light” through the structure and geometrical configuration of the bodies of the manifested world will be a factor dependent on the nature of the matter. The light can bounce off (reflect) as if the matter were a mirror - although if it is very opaque like a stone it will not be able to do so - or the light can pass straight through as if it were a crystal, or in some special cases it can be absorbed. The special cases occur when the energy of the light corresponds exactly to an energy transition in the atom it encounters. When this occurs, the atom absorbs a photon of light and uses that energy to increase the energy of its own electron. Therefore, there is a quota of electrical absorption that, if sufficient, would eventually lead to another state via transformation.

What does “these special cases” depend on? This “capacity to respond to higher electrical stimulation” will depend on the condition to which the consciousness has awakened and herein lies the opportunity we have to be alchemists

of ourselves. Recently was measured the visible light radiating from the heart with heart rhythm meditation. The meditator did a healing meditation in which he mentally placed the sick individual in front of himself and “sent light” to him on the exhalation coming from his heart. This is a technique of Heart Rhythm Meditation. The result was that “a sustained light emission of 100,000 photons per second was measured, where only the background count of 20 photons per second was observed without meditation.” ² When in group meditation we visualise ourselves as a Lighthouse illuminating in service with the Light of the Christ and of the Hierarchy, we may be creating that special condition capable of raising us to a higher octave of light.

The atoms that structurally make up a human being are susceptible to this stimulus whereby they can allow a certain level of light to pass through their bodies. From this arises the classification of opaque, translucent or transparent bodies which would hypothetically correspond to the stages of the path through which the aspirant, disciple e initiate passes. The structure is transformed to create a vehicle form that is more and more suitable for the passage of a more pristine light until eventually the vehicle is pure light. Master DK says:

“We shall see each other and all forms of divine manifestation as light

units of varying degrees of brightness and shall talk and think increas

ingly in terms of electricity, of voltage, of intensity and of power.” ³

We could infer that this luminous vision would reveal the initiatory status of the disciple, another way of under standing the words “by the fruits you will know them”, since his electromagnetic irradiation gives an account of the work achieved in the purification and redemption of its denser matter. Says Master DK:

“we must remember that each of us is recognised by the brilliance of his light. This is an occult fact. The finer the grade of matter built into our bodies, the more brilliantly will shine forth the indwelling light. Light is vibration, and through the measurement of vibration is fixed the grading of the scholars. Hence nothing can prevent a man's progress forward if he but attends to the purification of his vehicles.” ⁵

2. Seeing the Light

About 90% of the light that hits the human eye is lost before it can be detected, for example via reflections from the cornea.⁷ This range is called the visible spectrum, but light expands beyond it.

With etheric vision there will be no need for physical equipment to extend the electro-magnetic spectrum as the “eye” will be a window open at will to the etheric. The other senses will also become spiritualized and rectified in their vibration to that of the higher planes. With the etheric vision, the forms of all realms will be seen as woven living threads of light in direct, circular, helical motion…. Bright, colorful, luminous and sonic…. the dense shells have been left behind and likewise, this glorious vision will be left behind in the face of the dazzling flash of a greater LIGHT.

We can understand opaque bodies as those that do not allow light to pass through and absorb all the light they re ceive, as behaviour that obeys an attached, self-centred and separate consciousness. Master DK says: “the unevolved man neither emits nor manifests light”.

During the initial stages of de-opacification that characterize the beginner, the light of knowledge is worked with. The light of the mind begins to be utilized and thus begins the work of dissipation of the glamour.

On the other hand, the translucent bodies progressively let in a little light, until a time comes when their centre begins to vibrate with the frequency of a larger Light-emitting source. The aspirant and the disciple work with the light of the soul. “After the third initiation, the dual light becomes accentuated and takes on a still greater bril liancy through the blending with it of the energy of spirit.”⁹ At this stage common people can see the aura of Light radiating around Masters and Saints with its tremendous force field of Light. Transparent bodies let through all the LIGHT that strikes them.

3. Types of Light

Master DK says that “the light of knowledge, the light of wisdom and the light of intuition, being three definite states or aspects of the One Light.”¹⁰ It is the recognition of the varying “lights” upon the lighted way that signi fies readiness for initiation. There are variations of light, vibrating beyond our human retina to grasp or register. “Lights are varied (the light of matter itself, found in every atom of substance, the light of the vital or etheric vehi cle – a light which is the reflection of the One Light, the light of the instinct, the light of the intellect or the light of knowledge, the light of the soul, the light of the intuition). From light to light we pass, from revelation to revela tion until we pass out of the realm of light into the realm of life which is, as yet to us, pure darkness. It will be obvious to you that this increasing light – unfolds before the eyes – first of all the world of forms, then the world of ideals, then the nature of the soul, of ideas and of divinity” ¹¹.

Master DK describes the types of light in the following text concerning Ray 2 (Ray of our present Solar Sys tem)¹²:

18 subplanes were built in the most dense subplanes of the Physical Cosmic Plane, where the dark matter prevails as nature of the Opaque Body.

The Light of the Soul reveals the path of life leading back to the Divine Source of Light and Love.

We live in a chain of prisons where the variety of lights are being hidden.

We are told that Sanat Kumara is the divine prisoner of this planet until the ”last weary pilgrim has found his way home.”

The Monadic Light is hidden along the entire involutionary arc and part of the evolutionary arc. If we could be able to elevate our vibrational frequency to these higher realms, eventually and by the power of the imaginative creation we could design our most lightly garments. In DK words: “If prehistoric man, little more than an animal, has grown into the genius, what unfoldment is not possible as more and more of innate divinity makes its presence felt? ”. ¹³ Moreover, in the words of Robbins: “All shadows disappear because the various aspects of the personality (and soul) become metaphysically transparent, and no longer opaque to monadic light”¹⁴.

4. The favorable impulse of the Aquarian age

The entire biosphere is subject to the stimulation of the incoming Aquarian forces in its dual potency, as a major cycle and as a minor cycle. Therefore, the human being and his septenary constitution is susceptible to receive and respond to these energies. The complexity of the subject is vast, because each individual will respond to this influ ence depending on the rays of his formula and the energy field emitted by his or her relational and karmic circum stances (friends, family, country, service groups, etc). In a general way we can foresee that the Piscean stimulus and the withdrawal of the sixth ray is inducing a change which is already reflected, for example, in the withdrawal of support for the churches of established religions. At the same time, the Aquarian ingress and the increasing ac tivity of the fourth and seventh rays are bringing about a series of changes to which many could not be in a posi tion to adapt. The bodies of all living beings are being affected, and the new point of balance must go through a time of readjustment. If we focus on the subject at hand, we might ask how these new energies are affecting the first atomic sub-planes of all our vehicular forms.

Many would not be able to respond adequately with their atomic dynamics or achieve vibrational adjustment to adapt to the new conditions. The transmutation capacity required especially by the denser bodies would be more difficult to achieve.

5. Psychology of Life.

We speak of the existence of Life One which expresses itself in myriads of forms through a dual matter-spirit axis, which leads us to consider that we recognise Life to the extent that it expresses itself in form, which is a gross error. Life remains pulsating beyond the forms we contemplate.

It is Life that animates the form and is therefore the life-giving source of all manifestation whether in the world of form or non-form. As the Life acquires its denser expressions, they become less permeable to the passage of Light. This Life retains its “original and pure nature,” but is tinged by the quality of its container or vehicle.

The Path to Transparency

“Is a lot easier efforts to be translucent than it is to be fully transparent” ¹⁵

On our journey from the Opacity to the Translucency and thence to the Transparency, we identify either with the denser and more obvious forms or with the more subtle forms. To a consciousness that is identified with the 18 lower subplanes obviously, the subtler forms are invisible and as we know, the five senses are active in their per ceptual condition on the physical subplane of the cosmic physical plane. The world of opaque matter is a real world that is superseded by spiritual Reality. Once one becomes more aware of this truth and lives it practically and experientially, the spiritual world becomes more real than the denser matter accessed through the knew five senses of hearing, touch, sight, taste and smell.

The state of Translucency begins to operate with more refined senses, required for a more refined Reality. This recognition and the experience derived from it is described in a saying I heard in my childhood: “in a world of water, water bullets kill”. The fact that we do not see that which escapes our perceptual condition does not mean that they are not part of a greater Reality. Robbins says: “The appearance of the form may vary (and probably does vary) dramatically with the plane upon which it is ‘found’, and with the organs of registration through which it is registered (whether by beings focused upon that plane or upon others)”. ¹⁶

This increasing vibration (from Opacity to Transparency) is evolutionary and gradual in order, but does not progress in sequential order but expresses itself in constant and gradual overlaps and these configurations will depend on the

ray formula, the constellational forces affecting the individual, the cycle of the times and the forces emitted by cosmic centres that resonate microcosmically in the very heart of our atoms.

These three states, we could further hypothesise, correspond to the same archetypal source of the expression of the trinity which is repeated in all belief systems and philosophies, such as Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva, or in Christianity the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, or the three type of bodies or Trikayas in Buddhism: Dharmakāya, Sambhogakāya and Nirmānakāya¹⁷ or in esotericism the three Logos, etc.

1. Opacity Being

When we refer to a state of Opacity we are introducing a term which would define the vehicular nature of the common man, the one who has not yet begun conscious work on the Path of Evolution. We include here the ordinary and unevolved human being, who prevents the entrance of higher impulses and vibrations. To this opacity condition contributes the physical, emotional and lower mental bodies. This is the garment of the Soul in the lower worlds, a dark or dark-coloured garment that thickens over time and creates a shell that is not only insulating from the rest of humanity but blocks the passage of Light. This state of opacity has its gradations; there are humans that are more or less susceptible to the impression of the Light of the Soul, even though their etheric bodies may not yet be in a condition to be receptive to higher vibrations. The measure of opacity -we might infer- is given by the ability of the light to transmit a certain quantum of energy and ignite the substance. In the more opaque cases, the only light that these vehicles shows is the “lunar light” found in every atom of matter and substance, the light of the instinct, the light of the intellect or the light of knowledge.

We can say that as long as the focus of the attention of our conscious

ness is centered in our opaque bodies we surely harbor darkness and

are far from participating in the Glory of a greater Reality. “The light

[dark light is] awaiting the stimulation coming from the soul light”.

In order for the qualities of the Soul to express themselves through

our vehicles, the vibration of our vehicles must be adequate to ex

press in some measure His Light, His Love and His Will.

The opacity of our 18 planes must be subtilized, that is, its material

fabric lightened in pursuit of translucence. The method of achieving

this is through the process of transmutation, which operates upon our

opacity by purifying it. “Transmutation is the change or acceleration

of personality forces into egoic energy”¹⁹. The process of de-opac

ification follows a progression of transmutative events leading to the

first initiations.

2. Translucent Being

The beginning of the work starts in the polarised man in the physical body who is learning to be controlled by his desire body, though the permanent atom of the physical plane retains the polarisation. His inner flame is a tiny dot. The solar fires gradually displace the lunar light, and the lower nature begins its process of purification and trans mutation.

Therewith the consequent initiatory journey and the expansion of an ever more responsive consciousness to the stimuli of the soul initiates the progressive effect of “de-opacification”, which finds its final expression in the radi ant, iridescent, translucence Egoic lotus in the Causal body. We might hypothesise, therefore, that the de-opacifi cation is progressive and it could include the first lower initiations. It takes time, mainly to reach the 1^st initiation, hundreds of incarnations to build up a delicate thread of consciousness for us like Ariadne to follow. On the other hand, once the first step is initiated, progress may be accelerated: “When a man starts out to follow the path of occult meditation, it takes well-nigh fourteen years to rebuild the subtle bodies, and incidentally the physical.”²¹

According with the progress of the purification process, the permeability to the vibrational frequency of the soul is raised which automatically increases its Light. The spiritual life in the early initiations is interpreted in terms of the control of the soul over the personality, expressing a Translucence of increasing magnitude. Remember that the initiation “is the seal set upon accomplished work; it marks the end of one lesser cycle of development, and the beginning of the transference of the whole work to a still higher spiral”.²² In other words, each state of Translu

cency is progressive and the initiation is the seal and signal of the new state.

In this sense, we can find some authors whom give to this stage “Diamantine Translucent qualities” related with the Soul nature while others refers that the adamantine qualities are technically related with the triadic realm Atma Buddhi-Manas and the Monadic body in its own plane. We could conciliate both perspectives assuming that the adamantine translucency could effectively be those emanated by the diamond, but one with sub-microscopic inclu sions scattering the light passing through the diamond, giving it with a colored translucent. Colored diamonds con tain interstitial impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration; pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless.

The energies coming from the Soul bring information, which must be received by a receptor vehicle with translucent qualities. According to the degree of translucency achieved, the lesser the contribution of the colours themselves as it descends through the cascade of receiving antennae to the physical brain.

Translucency

First State of Translucency (first Initiation)

We could say that the first initiation is really where the work of de-opacification begins, where the soul begins to infuse the personality, it’s the 1st step for the soul’s control of its personality. I hypothesize that the first State of Translucency is acquired at the threshold called “Birth” - when the Christ can be born in the cavern of the heart - because a certain percentage of the opacity has been transmuted and “the lost secret of Alchemy has been realized”. Polarization is found mostly in the physical permanent atom and “25% of etheric body is purified and redeemed

with Soul energy” ²³. When the Christ-life begins to pulsate in the cavern of the heart, the form becomes vibrant. The first initiation is described as a birth into spiritual life, when the first signs of soul recognition are given.

“Each initiation marks the attainment of a certain proportion of atomic matter in the bodies. The four initiations, prior to that of the Adept, mark respectively the attainment of a proportionate amount, as for instance:—At the first initiation one-fourth atomic matter, at the second one-half atomic matter, and so on to the consummation. The intuition (or buddhi) being the unifying principle and thus welding all, at the fourth initiation the lower vehicles go, and the adept stands in his intuitional body, and creates from thence his body of manifestation”²⁴.

With the first initiation, control of the dense physical body is manifested. The first degree of Translucency is the result of transmutation, thoughts cease to be selfish and self-centred: “all for personal gain” and become harmless, non-toxic, directed to the common good: “nothing for the separate self”.

Transmutation remains active in the disciple life as it prepares him to realize the next degree of Translucence.

Second State of Translucency (second Initiation)

I hypothesize that the second state of Translucency corresponds to the state of purification, the Baptism in the river Jordan. It deals with the emotional plane and the aspirant’s effort to gain control of the emotional: The astral body begins to be controlled, the astral elementals are controlled and the emotional body becomes pure and lim pid. The energies of the personal and selfish desire of the lower nature are transformed and the aspiration and yearning for loving service come to the fore. Here the process of transformation largely replaces that of transmu tation. However, the state of Translucency is partial as the colour that passes through is an indication of karma that has yet to be purified, redeemed or in our terms: de-opacified.

The polarization is now in the permanent emotional atom, but (when this degree of unfoldment is reached) a light acts between the two atoms which have undergone polarization - the emotional and the physical. The inner Flame or Light is a little larger than before, but still so small as to be almost imperceptible. “The 50% of the etheric body is purified and redeemed with Soul energy”. ²⁵

Third State of Translucency (third Initiation)

It would correspond to the third Initiation, the Transfiguration, in which the entire personality is flooded with Light from the Soul. The first two initiations are considered threshold initiations, of a preparatory nature, since they prepare the disciple for the initiatory life that takes place once the third initiation is passed. The preliminary initiations have only prepared the ground and therefore the third initiation is considered the “true first initiation”, the First Cosmic Initiation.

From the Transfiguration we are translated into a higher realm which, though still in the physical body of the solar Logos, is above the 18 lower subplanes. The light of the Soul has moved from the 3rd to the 2nd subplane of the higher mental plane and from the irradiated illumination, the opacity begins to become more diffused and superior iridescent, translucent expression of the Egoic Lotus is reached. Master DK used the expression of “gorgeous trans lucence” when he refers to the unfoldment of the nine petals: “By the time the third Initiation is reached, a wondrous transformation has transpired… The nine petals are fully unfolded, forming a gracious setting for the central Jewel, and their orange hue is now of a gorgeous translucence, shot with many colours, that of the egoic ray predominat ing.” ²⁶

The inner egoic Flame or Light now radiates from an inner centre to the periphery, illuminating the causal body and giving the impression of burning and we remember “the keynote of this initiation is radiance”. ²⁷

Freed from all attachment, the body is Transfigured, the mind has been the transfiguring agent. From this mind emanate only “pure, right and wholesome thoughts”. The abstract mind conveys the group purposes. Although we have a touch of the Monad at the 3^th initiation since the spiritual triad begins to express itself, this stage is where Translucence is “made to begin to be seen”.

Fourth State of Translucency (fourth Initiation)

We hypothesise that it corresponds to the fourth initiation known as the Renunciation; it is the Renunciation of the lower 18 subplanes. With the destruction of Solomon's Temple at the 4^th Initiation we rise from the tomb of the lower 18 subplanes -or even from the lower 21 subplanes - and we enter into the higher Cosmic etheric life.

At this stage, the Solomon's Temple becomes a transfigured Translucent Temple which reveals the Light of the Soul in its full radiation ready to return to His Home after His Great and Lovely Sacrifice. All the energies have been absorbed back to their origin: “Then the fires of substance (the vitality of the permanent atoms) escape from the atomic spheres, and add their quota to the great sphere in which they are contained; the fire of mind blends with its emanating source, and the central life escapes. This is the great liberation.”²⁸

As the petals unfolds, they allow the Jewel in the Lotus - the expression of the Monad- to be revealed. As we approach its centre or essence, the irradiation increases, revealing the iridescent nature of the Egoic lotus or causal body, like the last song of a bird before dies. The causal body begins to radiate the inner Light from the Egoic nucleus and has reached such a point of refinement that its Translucence is almost as perfect as possible. As M.D. Robbins says: “The state of Translucence is that of the Causal Body or the Soul World.” ²⁹ As this Causal Body undergoes a kind of “restitution” during its destruction, there begins to be a greater passage into the state of Trans

parency that begins to radiate from the spiritual triad.

However, this maximum Translucence only lasts as long as the life of the egoic flower. And as every flower trans forms into fruit, so the Splendorous Jewel begins its maturation as the fruit of an evolving transparency.

“How far are you from me, O fruit?”

“I am hidden in your heart, O flower”³⁰

The personality thus reaches a stage where its vibrations are of a very high order and the matter of its three bodies are relatively pure and redeemed. The halo is seen and the matter becomes more translucent, for it begins to emit with its pristine potency, the inner Light which shines forth in the Diamantine Jewel. Important to note is that “the petals are translucent and diffuse light and the Jewel is transparent and radiant and allows light to pass through undiffused”³¹. In this state of translucence, this quality begins to diminish, giving way to transparent quality..

The colour of the astral vehicle no longer seems to hide the inner light. The clutter in the lower mind burns away and disappears. The lunar devas enter solarity. Master DK says: “In the destruction of the causal body at the time of the fourth initiation (called symbolically “the Crucifixion”) you have a process analogous to the burning of the web that leads to the unification of the bodies of the personality”³³. “You should also remember that the soul is a ²⁷ Alice A. form from the Monad's point of view, though a much subtler form than we know in the three worlds of human evolution”. ³⁴

Fifth State of Translucency (fifth Initiation)

In this state we cannot speak of Translucence because there is no causal body. We are witnessing the moment when the goal of evolution is reached: “The Work is accomplished” and the veil of Illusion has been dispersed. This is the fifth initiation or Revelation, where the familiar Translucence of the Self disappears to acquire a new state, that of a Transparency that reveals a new and higher Reality.

At this stage the perfect and fully adamantine Transparency has not yet been attained, and this will be the next horizon to reach. Another work has begun with the energetic transfer to fields of higher electrical activity, another Temple is being built: the Temple of Ezekiel.

3. Transparent Being

“The Dhyana [the Boddhi Portal] gate is like an alabaster vase, white and transparent, within there burns a steady golden fire, the flame of Prajna that radiates from Atma” ³⁶

With the destruction of the Temple of Solomon, the direct relationship between the purified lower form and the Monad is established; the polarization is raised to the Spiritual Triad on its own three aspects: Atma-Buddhi-Ma nas. This energetic transference gradually began as early as the third initiation as the campus of experimental phase and becomes a living experience and expression of the Transparent condition of Being after the 5^th initia tion. This is why the Jewel in the Lotus is mentioned as a “Diamond Soul”, because hidden in the Egoic Lotus is palpitating the potency of the Monad as a pulsating Adamantine Heart within the Jewel: “the Jewel, or Diamond concealed by the Egoic Lotus”³⁷. We can infer that as the Soul is to the Personality the Monad is to the Soul.

After the destruction of the causal body we have always been left in doubt as to what happens to the Jewel in the lotus. The monadic extension that resided in the Jewel gradually returns to its source. That is why we consider that the body of transparency is also obtained gradually. “The Jewel of fire blazes forth as seven Jewels within the

one, or as the sevenfold electric spark, and in the intensity of the blaze thus created is reabsorbed into the Monad or the One”³⁸.

However the most pure diamantine quality is achieved at the higher initiations of the 7^th, 8^th and 9^th Initiations: “all who have taken the three highest initiations are always referred to as “the diamond souled”; they, in their totality constitute the “Jewel in the lotus”.³⁹

Perhaps the confusion between Diamond Soul and Diamond Heart can be clarified under Blavatsky´s teachings. She says: “Vajrasattva is He who has the Vajra as essence, the “heart of diamond” or the “diamond soul”.⁴⁰ Ap parently, there is not quality difference between both. Later in her book she says: “This is the Logos, the First, or Vajradhara, the Supreme Buddha, also called Dorjechang. As the Lord of all Mysteries he cannot manifest, but sends into the world of manifestation his Heart—the “Diamond Heart,” Vajrasattva or Dorjesempa. This is the Second Logos of Creation, from whom emanate the seven—in the exoteric blind the five—Dhyani-Buddhas, called the Anupadaka, the ´Parentless´. These Buddhas are the primeval Monads from the World of Incorporeal Being, the Arupa World”^41.

When HPB refers to Dhyanibuddhas and Dhyanichoans says: ”once that their whole personality is merged in their compound Sixth and Seventh Principles or Atma-Buddhi, … they have become the “Diamond-Souled” or Vajra sattvas”. ⁴³

We could see the spiritual triad as a monadic vehicle but also as the synthesis of all the evolutionary experience. Each of the lower vehicles has a content in the atomic triangle of the physical/emotional permanent atoms and the

mental unit, and they will rise to the higher permanent atoms of the spiritual triad. Master DK says: “It is the low est aspect of that higher spiritual and monadic triad which reflects itself in the soul”. ⁴⁴ Therefore, at the ultimate instance, the Diamantine Soul is the reflective image of the Monad.

In the Sutras of Patanjali we can read: “The human being who has taken the highest of all our planetary initiations is termed “the diamond-souled”: the man who can perfectly transmit the pure white light and yet reflect equally all the colours of the rainbow, the seven colours of the chromatic scale. His personality is here called by the same term for it has become a transmitter of the inner light or radiance.”⁴⁵

The Theosophical Glossary also affirms the diamond-like quality of the Buddhic plane when it describes intuition: “The state of intuition has been compared to a bright, pure, transparent, colourless crystal. Look through it at any object, and it will present to the point in itself the colour of that object.”⁴⁶

First State of Transparency (sixth Initiation)

It would correspond to a body taking the Sixth Initiation or the Initiation of “Decision” and is so called because the Master decides which of the seven paths He will follow to reach His destined place.

The last illusion disappears ⁴⁷ and also all bad karma is exhausted but His accumulated good karma makes His final decision inevitable. The Master says that ”at the present time a number of Masters are taking this great step“ and have decided to postpone the decision in order to collaborate with the Christ in the work of the Externalization of the Hierarchy. ”They will also form a protective wall around the Christ”.⁴⁸

Engelbrecht in his vision he described the new body of the Christ appear

ing on what he called the New Earth, possessing a body so bright and

transparent that His heart could be seen:

“He is the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, feeing that he hath a glorified,

heavenly and transparent body….and thus has He an inmortal body”.⁴⁹

Second State of Transparency (seventh Initiation)

It is the True Transfiguration of the Initiate or Seventh Initiation. It corresponds to the initiation called Resurrection. It is at this moment, when the highest Planetary Initiation is attained, that “a body of a Diamond nature” is expressed: “All shadows disappear because the various aspects of the personality (and soul) become metaphysically transpar ent, and no longer opaque to monadic light”.⁵¹ The vibration acquired by the initiate enables him to act on the Logoic or higher cosmic physical plane, and he can then “sit at the right hand of God in Heaven”.

At the 7^th Initiation the destruction of the Temple of Ezekiel frees us from the Monadic vehicle and we attain the highest condition of Transparency. An state of Transparency that is required to can later resonate in the Sea of Fire, at the first Adic subplane in the Cosmic Physical Plane. This first sub-plane is intimately associated with our Solar Logos. It is difficult to imagine this Transparent body able to permeate the electric Fire. If in such body, remains any impurity, it could jeopardise the extrasystemic initiatory progression.

All shadows and obstacles have been removed before the Monadic Light and all aspects of the personality and soul become transparent: “…the light of the Central Spiritual Sun begin to penetrate the dark places of the Earth; when this happens all ‘shadows disappear’—an occult reference to the all-embracing radiance of the Monad as it absorbs both its reflection, the soul, and its shadow, the personality.” ⁵²

According to Master DK the greatest diamond radiance manifests in the seventh initiation: “The human being who has taken the highest of all our planetary initiations is termed “the diamond-souled”—the man who can perfectly transmit the pure white light and yet reflect equally all the colours of the rainbow, the seven colours of the chromatic scale. His personality is here called by the same term for it has become a transmitter of the inner light or radi

ance.”⁵³ Although this is the higher level of Transparency that can be attained in our planetary condition, subsequent initiations attained extraplanetary may intensify that quality of “electrical transparency” to even subtler states of Being. Let us see:

Third State of Transparency (eight Initiation)

It would correspond to the eighth initiation called Transition which is an extra-planetary initiation. Transition as preparation to the entrance onto the Cosmic Astral plane.

Fourth State of Transparency (ninth Initiation)

Corresponds to the ninth initiation called Refusal because his consciousness faces the total “negation” of the ex pression of our planetary life and experience in order to penetrate aspects of Life and Being to enter the Cosmic Astral plane and the initiate is free of the Cosmic Physical plane. In this final initiation, the Master is confronted with what might be called cosmic evil.

“I become a transparent eyeball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or particle of God.”⁵⁴

How can we achieve the transparency meanwhile?

Most of us are far from experiencing the higher initiations that bring us closer to that Trans-parent condition of Being, yet the training ground through the creative imagination is possible. For although most aspirants and disci ples are transiting the first three stages of the path, it is also true that we have tools to cooperate with the transit of the higher energies and thus, from above and from below, from within and from without, we can encourage the transformative work.

Science corroborates that nothing is static and that access to our divine heritage is present: “physicists have dis covered matter to be completely mutable into other particles or energy and vice-versa and on a subatomic level, matter does not exist with certainty in definite places, but rather shows 'tendencies' to exist” ⁵⁵. Even more interest ing is the notion that the existence of an observer is fundamental to the existence of the Universe, known as The Observer Effect, implying that the Universe is a product of consciousness. We do not know about the Cosmic Astral Plane, much less about the Cosmic Mental Plane from where it is possible to “God said: let there be light”. Under the quantum level, factors associated with consciousness have been known to change the behavior of matter, like photons, suggesting that “observers” are responsible for determining physical reality and create the structure of the matter.

Occultists, ascribing to the imagination the capacity to create, know about this capacity. We have used this capacity through the visualization of meditative formulas provided by Master DK to graduate as architects of our own destiny through the construction of the various sections of the Antahkarana: “I made the statement that meditation was the major creative agent in the universe”.⁵⁶

Michael Robbins offers us an example of practice with which we can train ourselves to recognize the Monadic nature of those we relate to on a daily basis, rather than relating to the opaque and gross aspects. What would the world be like if our relationships were a play of lights interpenetrating and dancing to a sacred sound? Let's look at the proposal⁵⁷:

“…11. Through the creative imagination, visualize the magnetically bound World of Forms as completely transparent. Within each form see the blazing light indicating the Presence of Spirit. When you look, imaginatively, towards any form, all you see is the shape, transparency, and the blazing Radiance of Spirit.

…14. Be impressed by the utter sameness of the Spirit Light. Feel the sameness. Look through all forms (for they are transparent) and see but Spirit Light that you know to be one and the same in every form.

15. Holding your concentration on the identicalness of the Radiant Spirit Light, re store all forms from transparency to opaqueness—all their color and vibrancy re turns—but, the Spirit Light is still blazing and is seen though all the opacity of form.”

We can practice it on a daily basis. We can thus cultivate within ourselves the capacity to respond to the divine in our brother. But we have to understand that the ability to see his Divine Self depends in part on the ability to recognize it, -at least in any grade- in ourselves. For we can decide whether we continue to see in the other person what the sense of sight allows us to see in a polarized consciousness of our opacities or, eventually we can ascend our senses to higher octaves, in the direction of Divine Vision and the Realization of recognizing that “there is no other”.

By this practice we can awake to another relational state and achieve the consciousness of “Oneness”, that place where their pain, or their joy, or their hope, or their fear becomes ours (Buddhic state of compassion) and from there we can heal and we can follow the real and required collaborative service. We discover in a kind of revelation that each individual is an absolutely Sacred Being. Under the Radiant Light we can relate each other throughout the

essential nature of Perfect Transparency.

“Daring! Should one understand it as an unheard-of achievement? Shall not daring be one’s daily repast, and the garment of one’s every thought? Will not the prison walls become transparent?”⁵⁸

Geometric Patterns of the three states

“Every stage of development in Raja Yoga is symbolized by a geometric symbol”.⁶⁰ As the charcoal as a symbol of the quaternary that typifies the lower self is worked out, our reality is endowed with expanded dimensions of meaning, from what it was as a latent potency to what it could become (diamond).

The process of transformation from the cube (Carbon) to the Triangle- here represented by the Octahedron (Dia mond)-, can be hypothesised as the geometrical drive to achieve the most harmonious archetypal expression possi ble. “The six-pointed star becomes the five-pointed star, the cube becomes the triangle, and the triangle becomes the one; whilst the one (at the end of the greater cycle) becomes the point in the circle of manifestation.“ ⁶¹

As the four ascends to its higher harmonic as the eight, this

is the task we will try to decipher and which would explain

in its geometrical aspect how the form is refined.

Perhaps it is possible to approach the consideration that the

great “Fixed Design” which the Monad embodies could be

that of the Diamond.

The transparent forms are profoundly ethereal in comparison to their opaque counterparts on the dense physical plane. These geometries are animated and energized according to the state of consciousness to suit the purpose of the life they inhabit. Thus, they transmute, transform, transfigure from their most basic configuration (cube) to that of the 8 triangles (Octahedron).

The progress of transformation is being studied under the quantum and mathematics computerized models as we can see in the following figure:

1. Opacity Being and Carbon

Carbon is the fundamental building block in the shaping of organizational structures, forming a pattern or basic atomic lattice on which all biological organizations in our biosphere are built. The cube is the representation of the carbon atom, but an unfolded cube shows a hexagonal structure, which is repeated in many expressions of nature. We discover it in snowflake symmetries, in quartz, in the honeycombs of the bee, etc.

We could hypothesise that carbon and its unfolded hexagonal structure correspond to the lower physical planes, be it the rose garden or the grand wheeling universe.

But when it comes to the more subtle vibrations that correspond to higher planes, other configurations and dynamics might be displayed. The order of fractality may differ in the flower, in the soul and in the spirit, but they all respond synthetically to the “fixed archetypal design”.

2. Translucent Being: an Transitional field between Carbon and Diamond

Just as in the realm of the mineral kingdom there is the possibility of refinement as with carbon on its way to its adamantine quality, so too can the human being reproduce this process as the human body includes the mineral kingdom. We can hypothesise that there is a geometrical progression to achieve the rank of diamond through the pressure and the heat of transformation. ”The best known example of the effect of the initiation of the mineral by fire can be seen in the great transition and transformation, allotropically brought about, from the carbon stage to that of the perfect diamond.“ ⁶⁶

The idea of “perfect Diamond” introduces the possibility of “imperfection” possibility. It is said that perfect dia monds are very rare in the mineral world. The vast majority of diamonds have imperfections in the form of inclu sions; material trapped within the diamond or disruptions in the carbon lattice that are the result of formation deep in the earth's crust over billions of years.

This intermediate transitional field from carbon to perfect diamond we can hipothetize corresponds to the state of diamond which contains inclusions and impurities. This characteristic is responsible for the colouring of its irides cence. This intermediate category could fit into the Causal Body category (also intermediate beween the higher and lower human constitution. Could we interpret these inclusions signals of the prevalent expression of the Egoic Ray providing the Soul and eventually the personality nested with the qualities of this colored Ray?

Finally, some diamonds have the property of being fluorescent, a condition that allows them to glow under special conditions, for example, under a long-wave UV lamp. Diamonds can fluoresce in a variety of colours: blue, yellow, green, orange and white, with blue being the most common. It is estimated that about 50% of all diamonds have fluorescence that can be seen. They are not considered “pure diamonds”. But…still can be Lighthouses in the dark

3. Transparent Being and the Diamond

The diamond is the gemstone that best represents the effort of every walker to convert his carbon into diamond or, in other words, his opacity into transparency. In particular, since the diamond has the highest known hardness in the mineral kingdom, it can symbolize the state of fortitude, temperance and persistence that the disciple acquires along the path.

Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov says: “How can we become a diamond? Originally, a diamond is just carbon – ugly, black carbon – that is transformed under the effects of tremendous pressure and extremely high temperature. Well, it could be said that the tale of a diamond is that of an Initiate. He too was simple carbon at first, but thanks to the enormous pressure he had to withstand (his trials) and the high temperature he has borne within him (his love), he has become a diamond, a pure, sparkling light, and he is now set on the crown of an angel, an archangel or a divinity”⁶⁹

Natural diamonds are formed under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, but they are also synthesised artificially, in which case it is possible that, like a zombie, they lack its essential nature. The Cardinal of Rohan, the famous victim of the so-called diamond necklace conspiracy, claimed that he had seen how the Count of Cagliostro made gold and diamonds⁷⁰.

The word diamond in Sanskrit comes from the root “Dyut” which has 3 meanings⁷¹:

1) To illuminate, irradiate,

2) To make clear, explain, elucidate.

3) To express, mean.

Derived from the Greek name ‘Adamas’ meaning ‘unbreakable’, “unconquerables.” ,‘untamable’, and ‘Diaphanus’ meaning “transparent”! The shape of a rough diamond is an octahedron composed of 6 sharp points, 8 planes and 12 straight and sharp ridges.

Diamond has strong covalent bonds, each carbon atom lies at the center of a tetrahedron, which links with four carbon neighbors at the apices of a regular tetrahedron parallel to 111 (See Fig 11) which accounts for octahedral

cleavage of stone. As the hardest natural substance known to man, diamond can only be cut and faceted by the rotary action of its own powder.

Diamond in the Space

While diamonds are often found more than 3000 feet within the Earth, they have also been discovered in meteorites, indicating a universal evolution of their chemical and structural formation: “In the past few years, researchers have noticed that most meteorite carbon are molecules called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are very stable compounds and are survivors. PAHs are the most common carbon-rich compound in the universe…They are similar to the molecules that make-up living things” said Max Bernstein, a space scientist at NASA Ames.⁷³

NASA in its own official page talk about a super-dense planet in a solar system, about 40 light-years from Earth, in the Cancer Constellation called 55 Cancri which could be a diamond planet (in my words): “A recent density determination for 55 Cancri e show that this exoplanet is not made primarily of oxygen, as are the inner planets in our Solar System, but rather of carbon… this planet's great internal pressure might be sufficient to make the carbon found there into one huge diamond.”⁷⁴

In 2011 a planet was discovered in a Pulsar- in the constellation Serpens Cauda - very close to the border of the constellation Ophiuchus, named PSR J1719-1438, which is speculated to be a diamond body. Scientists speculate that the conditions are right for the carbon within it to be crystallized-in other words, a giant celestial diamond- and believe it to be completely made of diamond.⁷⁶

Diamond Geometry

The triangles are the basic form of all the different types of polyhedral forms: “the triangle is the basic geometric form of all manifestation”⁷⁷ and it is the fundamental geometric symbol of the diamond; its triangular facets are responsible for emitting the colours it radiates.

When four triangles are joined together to form a square, the resulting shape is considered a symbol of the Earth. As we have been taught, the earth is not yet a sacred planet and its etheric pattern responds to a grid of squares. This pattern is repeated analogously in the microcosmic form, in the personality bodies.

The redemption of matter will result in the triangular geometrical arrangement, the same that the New World Group Service is creating through the Triangles Meditation Technique. The physicians of the world will recognize the triangular etheric grid through which the binding energy of human organs and systems circulates in the near future. Therefore, we can affirm that the human being is working to “fit” into a diamond universe with its own alchemy.

Master DK mentions that “the diamond shaped formation of the interrelated energies is the prototypal pattern which lies behind the etheric network and is its final, conditioning influence as far as our Earth is concerned”.⁷⁹ Could we infer that the mention of the etheric network refers to the 4 cosmic etheric subplanes (Buddhic, Atmic, Monadic and Adic)?. It would then correspond to the vibrations that correspond to the Transparency state and therefore to the adamantine body.

The octahedron, the most common form of the diamond, is a double pyramid and is somewhat reminiscent of the teaching: “As Above - So Below”. The surprising relationship that holds for these new rhombuses is that the ratio of the two diagonals of the diamonds (rhombuses) is Phi (0.61803 39887) or the “Divine Ratio”. ⁸¹

Diamonds in the History

Throughout history, diamonds have captivated mankind with their beauty and supernatural beliefs and have been at the centre of myths and legends in cultures around the world. Believing the illumination and reflection of a diamond will inspire imagination and ingenuity in its wearer, they also bring about strength, fortitude and courage through a diamond's hardness and 'invincibility' having the power to drive away bad energy or fortune. Lets explore just a little about this subject:

“201. People who take upon themselves Great Service may be called “Heavenly Stones.” In their striving they fill themselves with light. Diamonds in Hinduism

∙ Castes & Diamonds: The Hindus classed diamonds according to the four castes. The Brahmin diamond gave power, friends, riches and good luck; the Kshatriya diamond prevented the approach of old age; the Vaisya stone brought success, and the Sudra, all manner of good fortune.⁹⁶

∙ Vajra

The word most generally used for diamond in Sanskrit is transliterated as “vajra,”

“thunderbolt,” “indrayudha,” and “Indra's weapon.”

Because Indra is the warrior god from Vedic scriptures, the foundation of Hinduism,

the thunderbolt symbol indicates much about the Indian conception of diamond. An

other name for it was Agira that means “fire or the sun”. In fact there are 14 names

counted to be given to a diamond in traditional Hinduism.

The idea of diamond coherence is also assigned by the term “thunderbolt ” by Master

DK, as conveying the idea of electric force: “In the Secret Doctrine, the highest aspect

of divinity is called electric fire”.⁹⁷

∙ The Kalpa Tree: “is described by Hindu poet [Surindro Tagore] as a glowing mass of precious stones. Pearls hung from its boughs and beautiful emeralds from its shoots; the tender young leaves were corals, and the ripe fruit consisted of rubies. The roots were of sapphire; the base of the trunk of diamond, the uppermost part of cat´s-eye, while the section between was of topaz”¹⁰³

∙ The Syamantaka Jewel

The Syamantaka Jewel is perhaps the most famous Jewel in Hindu scriptures as Vishnu Purana and Bha gavata. The Jewel originally belonged to the Sun god, who wore it around his neck. It was said that which ever land possessed this Jewel would never encounter any calamities. There are some speculations that the legendary Syamantaka Mani might be in fact the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond, which was known to have been in the possession of the Mughal emperors of India, followed by the Sikh empire, and currently one of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.¹⁰⁴

∙ Nararatnapariksha

One of the oldest and perhaps the most interesting talismanic Jewel is that known as the naoratna or na raratna, the “nine gem” Jewel.

It is mentioned in the old Hindu ratnacastras, or treatises on gems, for example, in the, where it is described as follows¹⁰⁸:

It is interesting to note that Diamond corresponds to Venus, which in Esoteric Astrology is related with the Solar Angel. Also, this gem should be placed towards the East, where the “Morning Star” rises - Venus - and also the Sun. We may also note that in Hindu culture the diamond is related to Venus while in Western culture it corresponds to the Sun.

Diamonds in Buddhism

∙ Buddha Diamond Eye: The consciousness of the Buddha has been called the diamond-eye” ¹⁰⁹

∙ Vajra

Literally: “Staff, diamond”, or sceptre.¹¹⁰ “Diamond Soul” (Vajrasattva) is the title of the Supreme Buddha, the “Lord of all mysteries called Vajradhara and Adi-Buddha”.¹¹¹

The Vajra is considered one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. As a ritual weapon symbolizes the properties of a diamond: indestructibility and a thunderbolt: irresistible force.¹¹² A diamond is spot lessly pure and indestructible. The Sanskrit word means “unbreakable or impregnable, being durable and eternal”. As such, the word “Vajra” sometimes signifies the lighting-bolt power of enlightenment and the absolute, indestructible reality of shunyata, “emptiness.”

Such qualities make it unique and that is why it is fundamental as a ritual implement in Buddhist traditions. The Sanskrit term Vajra or Dorje in Tibetan means 'the hard or mighty one', an indestructible hardness and brilliance like the diamond, which cannot be cut or broken. An indispensable feature for the passage of electric fire during initiation. Is there any similarity with the use of the rod of initiation mentioned by Master DK?

While in Hinduism the vajra literally means “diamond scepter” and arm to be used against enemies, in Buddhism is the symbol of the possession of all the siddhis, the highest spiritual powers. In controlling these powers, it is also called Dorjesempa, which literally means “possessor of the diamond”, another title for “diamond soul”.

The traditions describing fights against demons and

enemies show the Vajras with their tips open. But we

note that in Buddhist traditions their tips are closed:

“According to Buddhist legend, Shakyamuni took In

dra's vajra weapon and forced its furious prongs open,

thus forming a peaceful Buddhist sceptre with closed

prongs. The Buddhist Vajra thus absorbed the un

breakable and indestructible power of lightning”.¹¹³

∙ Diamond Sutra

The oldest dated printed book in the world is called the Diamond Sutra, a Chinese text dating from 868 and was found in the Mogao Caves. Sutras are most used to describe the teachings of Buddha. In this case the title of the Sutra refers not to the diamond itself but to a 'diamond blade that will cut through worldly illusion to illuminate what is real and everlasting'.¹¹⁵

∙ Maha Prajnaparamita Sastra

In Buddhism, we find many references to the diamond, such as the one in the reference of the Maha Prajna paramita Sastra¹¹⁶: “the Bodhisattva must practice the perfection of wisdom if he envisages thus when shall have attained supreme complete enligtenment, may every place where I walk, stand, sit or lie down change into diamond (vajra)”. This “diamond body” is called Vajrakaya.

∙ Forehead Ornament

This symbolism is used in Jewelry, as example the Forehead Ornament for a Deity from the 17th–19th century, with the four celestial Tathagata Buddhas, marking the directional Pure Lands, flank Vairochana, symbolized by the double-pronged vajra (thunderbolt) at center. The large diamond at its axis refers to Vajrayana being the diamond vehicle of Buddhism.

∙ Vajravahati

Vajravarahi is regarded as an important Buddhist deity in both Tibet and

Nepal. Her name means “Diamond Sow”, and she is represented with

the head of a pig.

Her attributes are a thunderbolt, a skull and a club. ¹¹⁸

∙ The Legend of Sujata

“Legend has it that in Lampang, Thailand there lived a noble

lady, Suchada (Sujata), who loved pious works. She once

found a huge pumpkin in her garden which she offered to the

abbot of the nearby monastery. The pumpkin changed over

night into a diamond”. ¹²⁰

∙ Lotus´s Stalk of Diamond

The two Nagas, Nanda and Upananda, created a lotus of a thousand leaves, large as a chariot- wheel, en tirely of gold, and its stalk of diamond, and came to present it to Bhagavat. And Bhagavat sat on the pericarp of this lotus, with legs crossed, body upright, and applying his mind to recollec- tion. Above this lotus he created another; and upon this lotus Bhagavat appeared similarly seated. And in like mannner before him, behind him, around him, appeared masses of Blessed Buddhas created by him, who, elevating themselves even to the heaven of the Akanishthas, formed an assembly. ¹²²

∙ Questions to King Milinda: In this buddhist writtings which data from the third century of our era, three stages of adamantine qualities are described:

o “Just, O king, as the diamond is pure throughout; just so, O king, should the strenuos Bhikshu, earnest in effort, be perfectly pure in his means of livelihood. This, O King, is the first quality of the diamond he ought to have.

o And again, O king, as the diamond cannot be alloyed with other substance; just so, O king, should the strenuous Bhikshu , earnest in effort, never mix with wicked men as friends. This, O King, is the second quality of the diamond he ought to have.

o And again, O King, just as the diamond is set together with the most costly gems; just so, O King, should the strenuous Bhikshu, earnest in effort, associate with those of the highest excellence, with men who have entered the first or second or third stage of the Noble Path, with the Jewel treasures of the Arahats, of the recluses of the threefold wisdom, or of the sixfold insight.”¹²³

Diamonds in Norse or Scandinavian

The diamond (two rhombus) structure reminds the Rune “Dagaz” which predicts the possibil ity of seeing the light after a period of trial or darkness.

It is associated with awakening to life, transformation, seeing in the darkness. Disappearance and the act of becoming invisible.

Diamonds in Greek

∙ Jupiter and the Chains of Delos: The tradition Latona, the future mother of Apollo and Diana, flying from the wrath of Juno, besought all the islands of the /Egean to afford her a place of rest. ∙ Lithica: The Orphic Lithica of Pseudo-Orpheus is dated most probably from the IV c. Diamonds in Slavic Mythology

Dazhbog - the Slavic god of light and sunshine - was said to live in a

golden palace in the east, in a land of plenty where summer never ended.

Every morning he left his palace in a chariot of diamonds, drawn by fire

breathing white horses, and rode across the sky.¹³⁵

Because the superior qualities and exceptional brilliance and value of the

diamonds, they were frequently looked upon as the gem of Sun.

The diamond as a solar symbol reminds us of H.P. Blavatsky's answer

when asked about the solar and lunar influences upon the gems. She re

plied that the diamond and the ruby were under the influence of the Sun,

and the sapphire under that of the Moon, and then added: “What do you

care?” ¹³⁶

Diamonds in Italy

∙ Roman poets adopted this Greek tradition of diamonds as the strongest, most unbeatable substance, by claiming the gates of Hades, which can only be entered after death and can never be exited through, were diamond as well. In medieval Europe, diamonds were referred to as “tears of gods,” and kept as amulets in battle.¹³⁸

∙ The medieval Italians who were of seeking some hidden and significant meaning in the names of precious stones, in the case of diamond (diamante), read the phrase amante di Dio, or “lover of God”. This was a reason for regarding the brilliant gem as a sacred stone and one especially suitable for religious use.¹³⁹

Diamonds in Egipt

Manly Palmer Halls says that the Great Pyramid was built with limestone blocks cut with bronze saws that had teeth of diamond or some other precious stone. ¹⁴⁰

Diamonds in Persia

A Persian legend of the origin of diamonds and precious stones shows that in the East these beautiful objects were looked upon as the source

of much sin and sorrow. We are told that when God created the world he made no useless things, such as gold, silver, precious stones, and diamonds; but Satan, who is always eager to bring evil among men, kept a close watch to spy out the appetites and passions of the human mind. To his great satisfaction he noted that Eve passionately loved the many-colored flowers that decked the Garden of Eden; he therefore undertook to imitate their brightness and color out of earth, and in this way were produced colored precious stones and diamonds. These in after time so strongly appealed to the greed and covetousness of mankind that they have been the cause of much crime and wretchedness.¹⁴¹

Diamonds in Mexican Mythology

The Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortez tells of his encounter with Moctezuma, Aztec Empeor: “At the time I ad vanced to speak to Moctezuma, I took off from myself a collar of pearls and glass diamonds, and put it around his neck”.¹⁴²

Diamonds in Jewish Mythology

∙ Targum Yonathan paraphrases Genesis 6:16 to read, “Go to the river Pishon and take a brilliant stone from there and place it into the ark, to illuminate it for you.” Midrash Aggadah states that God commanded Noah to bring a diamond with him on the ark, to give them light like midday, because the ark would be dark.¹⁴³ Could be the ark the opaque being state?

∙ God made ten canopies for Adam in order to show great honor to the first man. The Jewels covering them are all different: chalcedony, topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, emerald, carbuncle, and gold.¹⁴⁴ Could they represent the ten points of the Pythagorean Triangle? This symbol represents the Unit Point – the Unity whence all proceeds- and the 9 phenomenal worlds.

∙ This unusual folktale may be based on the midrashic tradition about the Tzohar, the Jewel said to have been given to Adam when he was expelled from the Garden of Eden. Adam loses the diamond in a river after being pushed by an angel, and discovers that the river is full of diamonds as precious as his own. The angel reveals that he was not the first to be expelled from Eden and take a diamond with him. ¹⁴⁵ Why did all those expelled from Eden carry a stone of protection? “Eden can means in one sense Wisdom, a state like

An Adam expelled from either scenario requires a talisman of protection and strength in order to initiate his return.

∙ Breastpiece: In the Exodus Moses sets forth directions for making the Breastpiece for Aaron, the High Priest of the Hebrews. Specifically, it had to contain twelve precious gemstones, representing the twelve tribes of Israel¹⁴⁸:

13. You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, and di amond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold, prepared on the day of your creation.

∙ “In the Talmud we read of a gem, supposed to have been the diamond, which was used by the high priest. This stone served to show the guilt or innocence of one accused of any crime; if the accused were guilty, the stone would grow dim, but if he were innocent, it would shine more brilliantly than ever. This quality is also alluded to by Sir John Mandeville, who wrote: It happens often that the good diamond loses its virtue by sin and for incontinence of him who bears it´¹⁵²

The Flaming Diamond

The hidden symbolism of the spiritual Sceptre was distorted and it is oriented as material emblem of authority and sovereignty. The “Sovereign’s scepter” is one of the most famous sceptre used in the coronation ceremony of the King George V. This sceptre holds the world’s largest and famous diamond, the Cullinan I, also known as the First Star of Africa found in South Africa in 1905.

But there are others Rods that only who are in the Spiritual Path are enabled to admire and experience. We are talking about the Sceptre of Initiation, which is employed by the initiator - administrator or hierophant - as a trans ferring agent of electrical energy to the initiate: “This Rod is the Rod of Stimulating Light”¹⁵⁴. Every initiation is a process of transmission of energy from a higher to a lower centre; every initiation charges the initiate with electrical force, connected with what H.P. Blabatsky calls “the mystery of electricity”. Therefore, these transmissions require not only a suitable receptive vehicle, but also an instrument that can serve as a transmitting and directing element in the flow of these energies.

Perhaps this is the origin of the legends surrounding the power of the magic wand. Every magic wand has been described as ending in a shining star (except Harry Potter's wand). It would not be strange to infer that the sceptres used in initiatory ceremonies are crowned with a diamond as Master DK briefly describes: “the glowing diamond …surmounts the Rod” ¹⁵⁵ and “focuses the three fires in the same way that a burning glass reacts to the sun, and causes a conflagration”.¹⁵⁶

Master DK gives some details about the initiatory rods that are used to transfer the Fohatic energies according to the initiatory grade. The magnitude of the energies set in motion for a ceremony involving a minor initiate is not the same as in the case of a major initiation, say, for example, that of a fifth degree initiate or that of a planetary or solar being:

⸸ At the first two initiations the application of the Rod of initiation is made by the Bodhisattva, the Great Lord, the Christ, the World Teacher. “The rod of the Bodhisattva is surmounted by a diamond which is not as great a diamond as the “Flaming Diamond” of the first Kumara, but is of rare beauty. At the time of initiation when the electrical forces are tapped, this diamond revolves on its axis, picturing the rotary nature of atomic matter.” ¹⁵⁷ Would it be possible to imaginatively attend this ceremony and witness the fohatic dynamic that gives seal and assurance to the preparatory work of de-opacification required to achieve the promise of a higher level of translucence?

⸸ At the third initiation the application of the Rod is being made by the One Initiator or Sanat Kumara. “The Rod of Sanat Kumara is far more intricate, and instead of the central Rod, or Serpent, standing on the tip of its tail, all the three serpents are interwoven in a spiral fashion, and the Flaming Diamond which sur mounts it is of such radiance that the effect is produced of a spheroidal aura, cast around the interlaced serpents, typifying the form-building nature of the Vishnu activity.”¹⁵⁸ Could we visualise this scenario of supreme radiance and yet preliminary to the fifth state of translucence in which it can be affirmed about the Work: “Consumatum Est”?

⸸ At the seventh initiation, the Logos of our scheme on His own plane, becomes the Hierophant. At the sixth initiation the expression of this Existence on an intermediate plane, a Being Who must at present remain nameless, wields the Rod and administers the oath and secret. It is through the application of the Rod of initiation that His Life energy is applied to the initiate, or the electrical force that emanates from Him is geometrically circulated through certain centres, producing the necessitated stimulation. Far from being able to imaginatively or intuitively attain the splendour of this ceremony in which “The unifying heat of the second Logos is felt at the sixth Initiation and the dynamic electricity of the first Logos is felt at the seventh Initiation”.¹⁵⁹

Master DK says: “The Rods are charged with Fohat which is fire of matter plus electric fire, hence their effect”¹⁶¹. Although “our God is a consuming fire”, there is no disintegration of the initiate's body but his purification and some kind of re-organization derived from the destruction of all that sustains a lower vibration, particularly making the atoms radioactive thanks to the electrical stimulation and therefor more easily eliminated. That is to say, new energetic currents will be created for the new vehicular configuration that will sustain that more expansive and higher vibrational consistency.

Important to note is that the Rod of Initiation not only touch the disciple, also is guiding the fire along certain routes or triangles according to the specific rod movements: “This fire, and the fire of manas, are directed along certain routes by the following of the Rod as it moves in a specified manner”¹⁶². Robbins says: “It is as if the Rod does not actually touch the fires, but simply directs them, magnetically”. ¹⁶³

At the fifth Initiation similarly the force of the third Logos may be felt, and at the sixth that of the second Logos, while at the seventh the dynamic fire of the first Logos circulates through the body of the Chohan. ¹⁶⁴

There are two kind of Rods of Initiation: the “Lesser Rod” used by the Christ at the first two Initiations and the “Greater Rod” or “The Flaming Diamond” used by Sanat Kumara, the Lord of the World, at the third and higher Initiations. “The Flaming Diamond” is used by Sanat Kumara, on Shamballa.

Master DK indicates that there are four types of initiatory rods, which differ from each other according to whether the initiation is Cosmic, Systemic, Planetary or Hierarchical, but he gives no details of their description, except that he refers to the electrical source with which they will be charged:

⸸ “Cosmic, used by the Cosmic Logos in the initiations of a Solar Logos, and of the three major planetary Logoi.

⸸ Systemic, used by a Solar Logos in the initiations of a planetary Logos.

⸸ Planetary, used by a planetary Logos for initiatory purposes, and for the third, the fourth, and fifth major initiations, with the two higher.

⸸ Hierarchical, used by an occult Hierarchy for minor Initiations, and for the first two initiations of man by the Bodhisattva. However, it describes that the Rod is magnetised with the “Flaming Diamond”. ” 165

Master DK also explain that there is a recharge between Varas and that greater Rod magnetizes the immediately lesser Rod: “There is a wonderful ceremony which takes place at the moment a new World Teacher takes office, in which he receives his Rod of Power - the same Rod used since the founding of our Planetary Hierarchy - and holds it before the Lord of the World, who touches it with his own powerful Rod, causing a further recharging of its electrical capacity” ¹⁶⁶ . This description could be an indication that the Initiatory Rod is an electromagnetic in

strument.

The Rod of initiation known as the “Flaming Diamond” used by Sanat Kumara was brought by the Lord of the World from Venus, and once in every world period it is recharged by the Solar Logos. In the sixth and seventh initiations, the “Flaming Diamond” transmits electrical force through the Logos from a source outside our solar system. It is undoubtedly a very dangerous instrument as it is hidden in the east and only the Lord of the World, the Chohans of the rays and the Buddhas of Activity know its location. The rod of the Bodhisattva lies hidden in Shamballa, the rod of the solar Logos is hidden in “the heart of the sun,” and the rod of the cosmic Logos is secreted in “the Central Spiritual Sun.”

Master DK describes without preamble that: “The power of the Rod is “terrifying” ¹⁶⁷, we must remember that the electrical force “descends upon the Rod” so that in order to make the transmission work possible without damaging the initiate with its voltage, a safety triangle is set up with two Masters or sponsors.

The Master also teaches us that the Flaming Diamond also applies to a country, and that it would correspond to the Heart of the country and around which the most important city is built. We can infer, for example, that this cere mony took place in Los Angeles (USA), in Munich (Germany), and in London (Great Britain). In addition to this major sceptre, the minor sceptre is also applied to the issuing of the attractive quality, or keynote, of any religion or religiously based organization that affects the civilization and culture of a people. We could interpret that a magnetic point has been activated in the United Nations and also to the group of Countries that shape the Destiny of Nations (US/Russia and UK).

The Transformation of Bodies from the Permanent Atom´s Perspective

As it was explained, with each initiation a quote of major electrical energy is transferred to the initiate resulting in the following considerations:

⁂ The vibrational activity of each atom is increased as one progresses along the path of conscious evolution. ⁂ The undesirable type of matter in the bodies is purified by the increasing electromagnetic vibration and destroys the configuration of its atomic structure on its radiative path to its translucent and subsequently transparent archetype.

⁂ The activation of the spirillae occurs gradually until the burning fire destroys the periphery of the atom and promotes as a consequence the gradual step of transformation from opacity to translucency and then to transparency.

Master DK teach us that “each body or form wherein Spirit functions has, for its focal point on each plane, an atom composed of matter of the atomic subplane of each plane”¹⁶⁸. Although an atom is the concrete manifestation of Universal Energy ¹⁶⁹ there is life there, there is consciousness there, and within it lies the Divinity. Thus, each vehicle is the result of the sum total of the morphological geometric conformations of its units, configuring a tem

porary habitat for an ever-increasing and inclusive consciousness. As the vehicular transformation progresses from opaque to translucent to transparent, it acquires an expression consistent with the vibrational demand in conformity with the need for spiritual expression. This preamble allows us to enter into the occult science of the atom, which may reveal some clues about the mechanisms that are activated in the processes of transmutation, transformation and transfiguration of the three states we have been hypothesising: opaque, translucent and transparent.

Edwin D. Babbitt developed the atomic theory and his figures were endorsed by A. Besant and C. Leadbeater’s (Ocult Chemistry), Manly P. Hall (The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Her metic, Cabbalistic, Rosicrucian, and Symbolic Philosophy) and it is also described by DK (Treatise of Cosmic Fire).

Manly P. Hall emphasises the dynamic quality of what he calls “seed atoms” with these words: “The seed atoms are twisting, spinning, whirling, vórtices of forcé, around which the four bodies of man are built as he comes into physical encarnation. These four are called the MYSTERIES, the Guardian Angels, or the Four Lords of the rec ords. They were symbolized by the early Jews as the Cherubim. They are the four beasts of Ezekiel, called the man, the bull, the lion, and the eagle.”¹⁷¹

Babbitt´s¹⁷² model proposes a spiral structure, and a circulation of forces in the form of a tube through which, and over which, the forces must vibrate and flow. There is a “main spiral” and “sub spirals or spirillae” that surround the main spiral and run in an east-west direction. “The spirillae are essentially streams of force, responding to stimulation and vibration, aroused within and without their limiting ring-pass-not”¹⁷³. There are also “thicker ex

ternal spirillae” or “extra spirallae”. Finally, there is a core that as an “atomic vortex” produces the axial currents which impels the polar cohesion between atoms. The Babbitt’s atom is based on the principle of polarity with positive fields characterized by heat and expansion and the negative, which are cold and contracting. The degree attained by the disciple is expressed by the level of unfoldment of the Egoic petals or by the alignment achieved with the triadic and eventually Adi plane. Petals unfoldment are related to the number of active spirillae in the permanent atoms. The four initiations, prior to that of the adept, mark respectively the attainment of certain

proportions of atomic matter in the bodies. Master DK teaches us that along the way we acquire a higher percent age of atomic matter in our bodies. In the first initiation 0.25% atomic matter, in the second initiation 0.50% atomic matter, in the third initiation 0.75% atomic matter, and in the fourth initiation 100% atomic matter. ”In the fifth initiation the adept leaves the lower vehicles and places himself in his buddhic sheath. From there he cre ates his body of manifestation”.¹⁷⁹

Thus, it is possible to infer the process of transformation of the bodies (Opaque, Translucent, Transparent) from the atomic angle perspective and the activation of their spirillae. We insert here a reminder that the whole process of transforming bodies has a multiple causal components and some of them is the work through meditation (building the antakharana), study and service. No transformation process can take place from the comfortable doze of a self

centred, separative and egotistic consciousness. The arduous forging of Vulcan is present. We can hypothesize about a progressive evolution of the activation of the spirillae according to the dimensional plane considered:

♣ Physical Permanent Atom (PPA): When the three lower egoic petals - Knowledge/Knowledge, Knowledge/Love and Knowledge/Sacrifice- are fully unfolded they vitalize the 3 major spirillae. ¹⁸⁰ The physical permanent atom becomes radioactive or a radiant point of fire. It corresponds to the Hall of Igno rance and the self becomes identified with its sheaths. This vibratory state would correspond to that of a state of opacity which, having its three active spires and its three inner petals unfolded, would be ready to initiate a gradual process of transmutation, that is to say, the one we call: de-opacification.

♣ Astral Permanent Atom (APA): When the second tier of petals- Love/Knowledge, Love/Love and Love/Sacrifice- are similarly fully unfolded, they vitalize the 3 major spirillaes.¹⁸¹. The complete unfold ment of the 5^th petal (Love/Love) is signal of the first Initiation but a lot of the personality has to be cleaned

in the 6^th petal (Love/Sacrifice) prior to the full unfoldment of the 5^th petal. The full radiance of the APA is acquired with the application of the initiatory cetre. The description of the APA is given: “The astral per manent atom has its internal streams of force arranged so that the spirals do approach quite closely the conformation of a heart, though the pointed end is eliminated.”¹⁸² With the first initiation and the entrance to the Hall of Learning

♣ Mental Unit (MU): When the 7^th petal (Sacrifice/Knowledge) of the inner tier of petals unfolds, the 4 spi rillae aroused to full activity. Master DK explains that the force circulates four times (due our fourth round) through the PPA, APA and the MU, so the energy becomes centralized in its fourth spirilla.¹⁸³. Perhaps the unfoldment of the 7^th petal is responsible to the mental unit´s transformation into its full permanent atom structure.

♣ Mental Permanent Atom (MPA): When the 7^th and 8^th petals (Sacrifice/Knowledge and Sacrifice/Love) petals are unfolded we have the 4^th spirilla fully vitalized and with the Sacrifice/Sacrifice petals unfolded and the revealing of the inner petals we have 5^th activated spirilla ¹⁸⁴. This 5^th spirilla is a synthesis of the 4 spirillae mentioned above and in the progress of its activation we have the period between 2^nd and 3^th initi ation.

However, Master DK says: “At the fourth initiation the seven spirillae are fully vitalised, and vibrant.”¹⁸⁵ So we could infer that in some moment between the 3^st and 4^th initiation the 6^th spirillae is also vitalized. Robbins says that “the sixth spirilla can be associated with the period of triadal infusion, and the seventh with monadic infusion”¹⁸⁶.

The stimulating energy of the three lower permanent atoms comes from the soul, however for the mental unit we already have four spirillae activated by the time the petal of the third ring unfold the petal of Sacri fice-Knowledge. Once all the inner petals are unfolded, the Jewel in the lotus is revealed and consequently we have “the resplendent triple flower” which shows the translucence in all its splendor and the Jewel with its transparency begins to radiate. Here we are talking about the fifth initiation and “the central Life returns

to its source… functioning as a centre of energy on planes of cosmic etheric energy”¹⁸⁷. At the 5^th initiation we consider the condition of higher iridescence and translucency is achieved.

♣ Buddhic Permanent Atom: “has its spirillae arranged so as to form approximately a figure eight with a central stream bisecting the double spiral”. ¹⁸⁸ We could interpret that the triad as represented “Monadic personality”, its atomic conformation has the 7^th spirillae fully vitalized. This is result of the progressive spirillae vitalization after the 3^th initiation and gradual polarization from the 3 lower permanent atoms to the triadic permanent atoms. ¹⁸⁹ The diamantine body of complete transparency achieved with the 7^th initi

Now, we could ask: where does the stimulating energy that activates the activity of the spirillae come from when we refer to the permanent triadic atoms, in a condition where the causal body is no longer operative and the Guardian Angel has consummated its mission? After the 4^th initiation the energy comes from the Monad ¹⁹¹.

The Rays as agent of stimulation for Spirillae

Master DK and A. Besant tell us that rays has a direct action upon the spirillae

found within the permanent atom: “Each of these rays [Monadic, Egoic, Personal

ity] has a connection with one or other of the permanent atoms in the lower threefold

man, and has a direct action upon the spirillae found within the atom” ¹⁹². Teachings

specifies that:

The Personality Ray deals with the first four spirillae.

The Egoic Ray concerns itself with the fifth spirilla and with the sixth.

The Monadic Ray is the source of the stimulation of the seventh spirilla.¹⁹³

It is possible that each spirillae radiates its own particular colour according with the

impacting prevalent Ray. Could we infer that the triadal permanent atoms irradiates

the seven colours with the prevalence of the Monadic Ray Colour?

This theme is a very advanced science which is revealed to high initiates for purposes that we are not capable even to imagine. Master DK advises us: “A close concentration upon and study of the spirillae and atoms would be scientifically and technically interesting and possible, but would not lead to increased spiritual development but to personality emphasis and, therefore, to increased difficulty in the treading of the Path. The more advanced a disci

ple, the more dangerous such emphasis and preoccupation would be”. ¹⁹⁵ He remind us that through the Permanent Atom the Force of Materialism works while the Great Lodge works though the seven centres¹⁹⁶.

So we will leave this analysis here but not before pointing out the aspect that has led us to consider it and that has to do with the transformation of vehicles and their relationship with the activity hidden in the radiative capacity of the permanent atoms.

Conclusion

These “three states” are increasingly purified expressions of energy centres that are being transmutated, transformed and transfigured in pursuit of the realization of the divine archetype. While the Opaque state of Being is contami nated with gross elements which it constantly adds to its nature while remaining oriented towards its own navel, an iridescent body – the Translucent state of Being- exists and lives within this mirrored, illusory reality. Likewise such an iridescent body includes within it a centre of greater power –the Transparent state of Being- which remains hidden until the hour of its discovery arrives. As Master DK has expressed, let it not be believed that the denser bodies are devoid of spirituality.

This Truth is a Source of Hope and Rejoicing, for it indicates that we are Divine Beings, capable of projecting our luminous contribution to the Greater Purpose as long as our Transparency is worked with humility, perseverance and courage as if we were Diamond Cutters. As Opaque Beings we show a high degree of resistance to the passage of the light; as Translucent Beings we “let the Light pass” by adding some tonality but as Transparent Beings, all interference ceases and there is only surrender so that the LIGHT may pass and Be. This hypothesis of presenting this progressive evolution of the state of bodies from their Opacity to their Transparency was an attempt to deepen the concept of Transparency, named in the teachings of Master DK, HPB, Roerich and with much profusion in Buddhism. In this attempt I could not fail to consider the energetic influences emanating from the suba-tomic sub

planes, that of those geometries that respond dynamically to a divine archetype, the initiatory stages and the instru ment of transfer of electrical energies, the myths and legends that contributed to a framework of beliefs that still prevails and hides an often distorted arcane wisdom. The Master and high grade initiates left keys to open portals that allow us to immerse ourselves in a current leading to higher realms through meditative formulas and visualiza tions. Teachings that lead to our own spiritual alchemy, from the Darkness To the Light.
